Programme

The Conferment Ceremony will be held on the 13th of May and between the 26th and the 28th of May 2022. In addition to these dates, supplementary events, such as rehearsals, will be held before the Conferment Ceremony.

Information about the detailed locations and daily schedules as well as accessibility will be added to this page during the autumn and around the end of the year.

Before the Conferment Ceremony

A briefing session and dance rehearsals will be organized for the participants before the Conferment Ceremony. Mandatory dance rehearsals are held for those Master promovendi who wish to participate in the Masters’ Contredanse Française at the Conferment Ball. In addition to these rehearsals, general dance rehearsals will be held for all participants. The briefing session and the dance rehearsals will be held in April, and the exact dates will be announced during the winter.

Friday 13th May

Flower’s Day

The Flower’s Day festivities will be held in the early noon near the Kumpula campus, and the lunch will be served in Restaurant Pjazza. Please note that the Flower’s Day lunch is not included in the participation fee.

Sunday 22nd May

Preliminary wreath-weaving workshop

Preliminary wreath-weaving workshop is meant for the Master promovendi who are attending the Conferment Ceremony without a companion (a wreath-weaver). It is held on Sunday afternoon before the Conferment Ceremony.

Thursday 26th May

Act rehearsal and wreath-weaving workshop 

The Act rehearsal and the wreath-weaving workshop are held simultaneously in the afternoon. The Act rehearsal is compulsory for all promovendi, while the companions (the wreath-weavers) of the Master promovendi will attend the wreath-weaving workshop. 

Wreath-weaving and sword-whetting dinners

After the Act rehearsal, the promovendi and their companions will attend the rector’s reception and either the wreath-weaving or the sword-whetting dinner.

Friday 27th May

Conferment Act

The Conferment Act is held early noon on Friday. The Act is a long ceremony with plenty of standing still, so we advise to take care of your well-being and stamina by for example eating a heavy breakfast before arriving to the Conferment Act. 

Laudatio Solemnis

Directly after the Conferment Act, there will be a procession to the Laudatio Solemnis i.e. the secular Laakerijuhla (“Laurel Celebration”) at the House of Nobility (Ritarihuone), and the ecumenical church service at the Cathedral. NB! It is forbidden to wear stiletto heels at the House of Nobility!

Conferment Dinner 

The Conferment Dinner held in the evening will be the culmination of the day.

Saturday 29th May

Excursion

The Excursion takes place early noon on Saturday. Lunch will be served at the end of the Excursion, after which the participants have time to prepare for the Conferment Ball held in the evening. 

Conferment Ball

The ceremonial Conferment Ball is held on Saturday evening, with the festivities continuing all the way to the night procession. 

Night procession

Following the Conferment Ball is the night procession, ending at sunrise at the Senate Square. 

Afterparty

The celebration of Spring and the Conferment may still continue after the night procession on Sunday morning.
